Managing Director, Film Funding

Niehuus has served as managing director of the Medienboard’s Film Funding Department since 2004. Prior to that she held a number of positions in the German film industry: she worked as a lawyer for the German Federal Film Board (FFA) in Berlin then as the FFA’s acting director. She also served as the German representative to Eurimages as well as its vice president for two years. She is currently a member of the board at promotional organization German Films, the German Federal Film Fund (DFFF) and the board of trustees of the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (DFFB).

At the Medienboard, Niehuus has been instrumental in expanding international co-production development funds with Poland, Turkey and Russia. The funder has also been a key player for U.S. productions, including Duncan Jones’ current Netflix project “Mute” and Showtime’s “Homeland.” In 2014 Niehuus became an honorary professor at the Film University Babelsberg Konrad Wolf, where she teaches film funding and film policy.
