In her first turn atop a TV news operation, Godwin inherited two of the industry’s big successes: first-place “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight.” But there is a need for ABC News to push further into streaming and help fill the Disney broadband portfolio, which includes Disney+ and Hulu, where she has invested in unscripted and long-form projects including “Soul of a Nation.” This July saw the launch of ABC News Studios, which already plans a “Nightline” spinoff and a political series for George Stephanopoulos to advise campaign “embeds” covering the midterm elections. The first Black female network news president, Godwin aims to deliver diverse programming and bring in more women and people of color.
