The chatter about when Murdoch will step down from chairing his publicly traded Fox Corp. and News Corp. empires, which are currently entertaining talks of reuniting as one business as they once were before splitting in 2013, has grown noticeably louder. He is the subject of the 2022 docuseries “The Murdochs: Empire of Influence” from Fox News rival CNN and a key inspiration for HBO’s multi-Emmy-winning drama “Succession.” In real life, Murdoch’s chosen successor appears to be elder son Lachlan, who serves as executive chair and CEO of Fox Corp. and co-chairman of News Corp., leaving younger son James and daughter Elisabeth to focus on their own respective companies, private equity firm Lupa Systems and prodco Sister.
