With The CW’s “The Vampire Diaries” and its spinoff, “The Originals,” officially in the TV books after eight and five seasons, respectively, Plec is prepping the next extension of her bloodsucker universe – “Legacies.” Based on the novel by L.J. Smith and developed by Plec and Kevin Williamson, the “Vampire Diaries” franchise firmly established the longtime showrunner as a valuable commodity for Warner Bros. Television, where she is in an overall deal. She directed the pilot for “Roswell, New Mexico,” the eagerly awaited reboot of the teen favorite, on The CW. Quite comfortable in the darkness, Plec got her start as a producer on Wes Craven horror films — “Scream 2,” “Teaching Mrs. Tingle” — before moving to TV on ABC Family’s “Kyle XY.”
