The pandemic pushed back the release of Chu’s Warner Bros. big screen adaptation of the Quiara Alegría Hudes/Lin-Manuel Miranda Broadway musical “In the Heights,” set in a New York City Latino neighborhood, to June 2021. But his career is still zooming forward on the momentum of his 2018 film “Crazy Rich Asians,” which grossed $238.5 million worldwide and proved the commercial viability of Asian-themed films. He executive produced the Apple TV Plus series “Home Before Dark,” as well as directed several of its episodes, while prepping a series about the 2018 Thai cave rescue for Netflix and a pair of “Crazy Rich Asians” sequels for Warner Bros. He’s also developing projects under his four-year overall deal with Disney’s 20th Television, including the medical drama “Triage.”
