Zeng is Beijing-based multinational conglomerate Dalian Wanda’s most senior executive in charge of movie-related endeavors, overseeing both Wanda Cinemas and Wanda Films. The company operates the world’s largest exhibition business, with about 1,200 multiplexes across China and the U.S., including AMC. It also backs Warner Bros. and Legendary’s MonsterVerse, whose latest installment, “Godzilla: King of the Monsters,” took in $386 million globally, over a third of it from China. Last year, it hit big with “Detective Chinatown 2,” which became the country’s sixth-highest grosser with a $474 million haul. Part three is currently in the works, expected to be released in 2020. Zeng is a force for Chinese filmgoing, predicting box office there will grow fueled by new theater construction and a ripe audience of young consumers.
