McVay is celebrating 20 years as the boss of U.K. producers’ alliance Pact, where he has earned a reputation as a powerful, industrious and effective champion of his members’ interests. McVay’s advocacy for the production sector was on full display throughout the pandemic, with Pact playing a pivotal role in persuading the U.K. government to set up a $640 million (£500m) insurance fund to help kickstart filming. To date, it has been accessed by over 800 productions working across the U.K., with the government crediting it for protecting some 70,000 jobs and $3.1 billion of production spend. This year he has also been leading a vocal campaign against the privatization of public-service broadcaster Channel 4. McVay was honored with awards from the Royal Television Society and the Broadcasting Press Guild.
