Despite the lingering pandemic, Witz’s ascension as the first woman to lead SiriusXM saw the company grow by more than 8%, expecting to close 2021 at $8.7 billion in total revenue. Eight of 10 new cars sold are equipped with SiriusXM radios, self-paid subscribers reached an all-time high of 32 million by the end of September and the subscriber base grew by 34% in the second quarter, with churn down to an all-time low of 1.5%. New channels and features aimed at younger listeners in particular helped the uptick, as did multidimensional deals with outside partners such as TikTok and T-Mobile. In a 12-month window, ad revenue from music streaming and Stitcher’s podcasts grew to $1.7 billion, up $400 million over 2020, while third-quarter advertising revenue at Pandora jumped 32% to $404 million.
