Jean
Smart
Smart, who had once been known for roles on sitcoms such as “Designing Women,” kept busy throughout the 2000s and 2010s with high-profile roles in series including “24.” Then came critically acclaimed, high-visibility roles on “Fargo” and “Watchmen” that earned her Emmy nominations. And then in 2021, Jean Smart won the Emmy for lead comedy actress for HBO Max’s “Hacks” and a nod for limited-series supporting actress in “Mare of Easttown.” It was the one-two punch of those two shows that cemented a “Jeanaissance.” Heading into 2022, Smart was a shoo-in to repeat in lead comedy actress, which she did. Next up, in addition to a third season of “Hacks,” she appears in Damien Chazelle’s 1920s-set Hollywood tale “Babylon.” She’s also busy ramping up development for her own shingle, SmartAngel Entertainment, including the fact-based script “Miss Macy.”
