Nederlander Organization

As the president of the Nederlander Organization, the man that Broadway knows as Jimmy Jr. stands at the head of a theatrical dynasty that owns nine Broadway theaters and a network of 20 other venues that stretches from London to L.A. He’s the third generation of the family to lead the firm, following in the footsteps of his late father James M. Nederlander, with whom he worked closely until Jimmy Sr. died in July 2016.

For theater landlords, savvy booking is a key part of the game, and the Nederlander can count long-running smashes like “The Lion King,” “Wicked” and “Hamilton” among the shows currently raking in the megabucks at Nederlander theaters week after week. He never likes to let a house go dark for long, and has found success with interim Broadway bookings for concert engagements (Frankie Valli, Harry Connick Jr.), magic acts (The Illusionists) and other limited-run shows, including the one-night-a-week run of Lewis Black standup outing “Black to the Future,” which kept the Nederlanders’ Marquis Theater lit on a night it otherwise would have been dark. The regular tenant at the Marquis is “On Your Feet!,” the Gloria and Emilio Estefan musical that the Nederlanders backed as part of the company’s regular producing activities.
