The man Broadway knows as Jimmy Jr. is the third generation of his family to stand at the head of a theatrical dynasty — started in 1912 — that owns nine Broadway theaters and a network of 20 famous-name venues that stretches from the West End to Hollywood. For a theater landlord, savvy booking is key, and Nederlander can count long-running smashes like “The Lion King,” “Wicked” and “Hamilton” among the shows currently raking in the megabucks at his theaters week after week. More recently, he landed the Tony-winning revival of “Angels in America” and the much anticipated musical bio “The Cher Show” and also backed both “Angels” and Lincoln Center’s “My Fair Lady” as part of the company’s regular producing and presenting slate.
