Ma extended his media empire in February, partnering with former Vice Media exec Eric Tu to form EST, an independent production and sales company focusing on the Asian market. Based in Los Angeles with satellite offices in New York, Taipei and Vietnam, EST plans to finance, produce and sell 15 projects a year. Among its first efforts are documentary feature “Hidden Letters” and Anderson .Paak’s music-biz comedy “K-POPS!” A serial entrepreneur, the Texas-born, Cali­fornia-reared Ma has previously co-founded the studio Stampede Ventures, VC fund East West Ventures, Asian-focused multi­platform digital media company 88rising and the NFT app OP3N. He has also enjoyed success as a hip-hop artist, recording both solo (including the songs “Love” and “Life,” both featuring Bruno Mars) and, with Mike Whang, as half of the Christian rap duo Namesake.
