One of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars and iconic superhero players (Wolverine in the “X-Men” films), Jackman took an unexpected turn toward the dark side with his performance as a smooth real-life criminal in HBO’s “Bad Education,” a turn that earned him critical raves and an Emmy nomination. Meanwhile, his longtime commitment to the stage, which had him touring the globe with his own song-and-dance show in 2019, led him to sign on for Scott Rudin’s ultra-buzzy new production of “The Music Man,” in a title role that seems to fit Jackman like a glove. The original opening was postponed due to the pandemic, but the actor has committed to be there when it’s safe to return to Broadway, where his proven sales power could help kickstart a post-COVID theater industry.
