Chadha documented her pandemic lockdown in an episode of Netflix’s “Homemade.” Shot entirely on her iPhone, the show follows her family hijinks ranging from her two children deciding to give their father a homemade haircut to bouts of friendly teasing between the Chadhas, as well as more somber moments such as grieving the loss of their aunt to the coronavirus. It’s a directly personal take on Indians dealing with the dueling expectations of cultural traditions and modern society that she has ably explored in films ranging from the 2002 international hit “Bend It Like Beckham” to 2019’s Bruce Springsteen ode “Blinded by the Light.” Chadha has also used her coronavirus downtime to write script after script while reading the works of others, despite it being unclear when she’ll have the opportunity to shoot all of her projects.
