Chakra’s Dubai-based company has long been at the forefront of distributing independent cinema to the MENA region, but it kicked off 2022 with its first production, “Perfect Strangers,” an Arabic-language remake of the 2016 Italian hit. Netflix boarded the project last year after signing a first-look deal with Front Row. “Perfect Strangers” topped the platform’s most viewed chart in countries such as Morocco, Egypt and Saudi Arabia and also sparked a massive regional debate on freedom of speech. The company is in post on a slate of Arabic-language productions, including a remake of “Les Intouchables.” Front Row acquires around 120 titles a year, a third of which are released in theaters. It also has joint ventures with MUVI Cinemas in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait’s Cinescape Cinemas.
