Valve Corporation

Co-Founder / President

After a five-year lull following 2013’s release of computer game “Dota 2,” Newell, nicknamed “Gaben,” issued the 2018 directive that developer-distribution company Valve would shift its focus back from hardware to software. This move allowed Valve to re-enter public consciousness as a heavy hitter in the video-game industry–—not just the company behind the world’s biggest online gaming store but a game creator. Newell was with Microsoft for 13 years before co-founding Valve in 1996. Valve and its third-party-built spinoff platform Steam revolutionized digital-gaming sales and spawned international blockbusters “Half-Life” and “Left 4 Dead.”
