Leonine Studios

Leading German film and TV producer-distributor Leonine, owned by investment firm KKR, made strides in 2021 toward becoming a European juggernaut. The company formed Mediawan & Leonine Studios, a joint venture with the French giant, which then acquired 51% of British production company Drama Republic. Leonine already had investments in companies in France, Germany, Italy, Scandinavia and Spain. It also acquired SEO Entertainment, which has garnered a rep for its light fare and nonfiction formats. On the movie distribution side, Leonine has bet big on a buoyant box office in Germany. It signed an output deal with Asbury Park Pictures and a three-picture deal with Lionsgate. Upcoming for 2022 are F. Gary Gray action comedy “Muscle” and Roland Emmerich’s sci-fi movie “Moonfall.”
