Entering 2021 with 300 million monthly players across PC, mobile and Nintendo Switch for “Among Us,” Willard and InnerSloth cofounder Marcus Bromander’s small team has had the enviable but daunting task of keeping up momentum. As a free-to-play game on mobile, which is how most users partake, “Among Us” relies primarily on in-game spending by way of cosmetic items — an industry standard — making it imperative to update the game regularly with new maps, skins and gameplay features, not an easy endeavor when your team is a fraction the size of the “Fortnite” force. Still, Willard is working on expanding “Among Us” to PlayStation and Xbox consoles via collector’s edition versions of the game featuring new content, per an announcement at E3 2021 in July.
