Shear
Cofounder / CEO
Shear saw Twitch viewership rise 82% year-over-year from March 2020 to March 2021 despite the pandemic, as he oversaw big changes at the platform known particularly for video game livestreaming. Following the November 2020 departure of Kevin Lin, Shear is the only cofounder left at Twitch after it was acquired by Amazon in 2014 for a reported $970 million. He partnered with recorded music labels for Soundtrack by Twitch in 2020 in order to ensure users avoid DMCA violations. Now, Shear is dealing with fallout from a massive hack in October 2021 that exposed millions in regular payouts to top streamers, Twitch’s source code and Amazon’s unconfirmed plans for Vapour, a digital gaming store that could reportedly be integrated with Twitch.
