Emmett Shear
United States

Co-Founder / CEO

YouTube may get more press, but for hardcore gamers, Twitch is the platform of choice due to its superior live interactivity and monetization options. Shear co-founded the company with Justin Kan in 2011, and three years later the two cashed in, selling to Amazon for $970 million. In addition to individual creators  such as gamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, who earns a reported $560K/month on the platform, Twitch broadcasts esports tournaments and, increasingly, non-gaming content like anime, cosplay, Lucha Libre matches and NBA G League games. Last year, Shear launched Twitch Extensions so users can customize pages with interactive overlays by third-party developers. He is also co-founder of Kiko Software and a part-time partner in seed accelerator Y Combinator.
