Chase has a long history of rewriting the narrative in Hollywood, from 2001 when she became the first Black woman to produce a film that grossed over $100 million (“The Princess Diaries”) to her current CBS reboot of the 36-year-old TV and film franchise, “The Equalizer,” which reimagined the titular covert operative as a female (Queen Latifah). Chase left a career as an aspiring lawyer to enter Columbia Pictures’ executive development program, which led her to run prodcos for Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston. In 2019, she produced acclaimed historical drama “Harriet,” which earned a pair of Oscar nominations, including best actress for Cynthia Erivo’s performance as the titular figure in history. While Chase has a first-look deal with Universal Television, she’s also producing films “True Spirit” and “Take the Ice” for Netflix.
