Fox Searchlight Pictures has promoted Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum to co-heads of production effective immediately.The duo will take over responsibilities formerly held by president of production Claudia Lewis, who announced on Feb. 16 that she was departing from the post. Greenbaum and fellow Searchlight chief Matthew Greenfield brought the venerable specialty film division its 20th Academy Award nom for best picture in 2022 with Guillermo del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley.” Perhaps even more significant, they won three Oscars — two for “The Eyes of Tammy Faye” (including best actress for Jessica Chastain) and one for Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson’s “Summer of Soul,” made in partnership with Disney’s Onyx Collective, which took best documentary feature. They’ve now positioned Searchlight — which they took charge of in April 2021 following Disney’s acquisition of assets from 21st Century Fox — for success in the 2022-23 awards season with such releases as Tom George’s “See How They Run,” Martin McDonagh’s “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Mark Mylod’s “The Menu” and Sam Mendes’ “Empire of Light.” On the TV side, Hulu’s “The Dropout” earned Searchlight its first Emmy for star Amanda Seyfried’s performance as disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes.
