Cofounder / CEO

Spotify moved at warp speed in 2020 as the world’s largest music streamer. Its to-do list included acquiring Bill Simmons’ podcast and media company, The Ringer, in February for nearly $200 million, and signing a global multi-year licensing deal with Universal Music in July, the same month it launched in Russia. Plus, exclusive podcast deals with Michelle Obama, Joe Rogan and DC Comics were struck. Ek’s company reports nearly 300 million monthly active users in 92 countries, 138 million of which pay for Spotify, earning rights holders more than $17 billion since the company’s 2006 launch. The pandemic inspired Spotify COVID-19 Music Relief, supporting some 20 charities in 15 territories while matching up to $10 million in user donations.
