The exec who came of age at MTV and Viacom in the early 2000s has the job of turning MTV, Comedy Central, TV Land and other cable TV brands into content streams for the on-demand world. McCarthy has spent the past year signing development pacts with talent ranging from actor-producer David Oyelowo, radio personality Charlamagne Tha God, actor Jamie Foxx and showrunner Taylor Sheridan, the prolific creator of Paramount Network’s cornerstone drama “Yellowstone.” Over the past decade, he has steadily expanded his turf, most recently in extending his reach to key strains of programming for the Paramount+ streaming platform. McCarthy emphasized the need to focus on content that can be spread out across linear and digital platforms with the launch of MTV Studios and MTV Documentary Films.
