Albrecht

At the top of Starz, Albrecht worked to counterpunch the programming of premium cablers like HBO, where he once helped usher in prestige TV. Many Starz shows feel like a direct response to HBO hits — “Outlander” as a femme-centered alternative to “Game of Thrones,” “American Gods” and “Counterpart” as brainy sci-fi/fantasy answers to “Westworld” — but Albrecht distinguished himself most by appealing to the underserved. “Power” thrived in its fifth season, while Albrecht added acclaimed new series “Vida” and “Sweetbitter,” both by and about women, and documentary shows “America to Me” and “Warriors of Liberty City.” The lesson: Diversity sells, especially when it can target multiple segments and give everyone something to watch. Albrecht stepped down as Starz President & CEO in March 2019.
