A true lion of British theater, Mackintosh has produced an endless stream of London and U.S. hits, including the musical “Cats,” which had the highest-grossing week in its 38-year history back in August, as anticipation builds for the star-studded big-screen adaptation in December. Among the mega-producer’s notable extravaganzas are classics “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Miss Saigon,” “Les Misérables,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Kinky Boots” and more recent hits “Avenue Q” and “Hamilton.” This year, he teamed with Disney Theatrical Group for a revival of “Mary Poppins” that opened in the Prince Edward Theatre, one of eight he owns in London’s West End, and in July he announced plans to turn the top two floors above his historic West End Novello Theatre into a five-bedroom penthouse.
