Mackintosh has bounced back quickly from the pandemic shutdown, which shuttered his theatrical productions around the globe in March 2020. By fall 2021, he had 50 shows playing or in pre-production internationally, including productions of “Les Misérables,” “Oliver!” and “Mary Poppins” in Tokyo, plus “Miss Saigon” in Austria. Most notable is Broadway production “The Phantom of the Opera,” the longest-running show in the history of the Great White Way that has played at the Majestic Theater since 1988, which resumed performances in October 2021 after being dark for 19 months. The three-time Tony winner’s show business empire also includes eight theaters in London’s West End, as well as New York-based Music Theatre International, one of the world’s largest theatrical licensing agencies.
