The Ringer

Founder / Managing Director

Simmons took the approach he used with the series of “30 for 30” documentaries he produced for ESPN and applied it to a collection entitled “Music Box” — six HBO docs exploring pivotal moments in the music world. It premiered in July 2021 with the provocative “Woodstock ’99: Peace, Love & Rage,” an acclaimed examination of the violence, vandalism and sexual assault that erupted at the rock fest. Simmons’ primary focus is The Ringer, the sports and pop-culture website and podcasting company he founded in 2016 and sold to Spotify in 2020 for close to $200 million. In August 2021, The Ringer signed a deal with the WWE to develop exclusive original audio content for Spotify, including “The Ringer Wrestling Show,” hosted by David Shoemaker and Kaz.
