Safaee’s decision to fully finance and executive produce Sian Heder’s “CODA” proved to be a good one. The tearjerker entered 2022 as an awards-season favorite and went on to win three Oscars, including best picture and best supporting actor for Troy Kotsur. He subsequently assembled one of Pathé’s most ambitious movie slates in recent decades, with production costs upwards of $200 million, highlighted by director Martin Bourboulon’s $75 million big-screen take on Alexandre Dumas’ classic “The Three Musketeers,” set to release in two parts, “D’Artagnan” and “Milady,” in April and December 2023. Among the high-profile Pathé films due in 2023 are Kirill Serebrennikov’s “Limonov” and Matteo Garonne’s “Capitano.”Also this year, with an eye on the long term, he launched the French film giant’s TV department, which has already set two series with a major streamer.
