Hill became a prominent figure in 1991 when she testified before Congress that she had been sexually harassed by former boss and then Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas. In the ensuing years, she kept a relatively low profile as a law professor (currently at Brandeis University) until she signed on as chair of the Hollywood Commission to Eliminate Sexual Harassment and Advance Equality in the Workplace in December 2017. In late 2019, the organization undertook its first major initiative, the Hollywood Survey, querying 9,630 people who either work, once worked or were pursuing work in the entertainment industry. The results were released in fall 2020 in four reports covering bias, accountability, bullying, and sexual harassment and assault.
