Forssell steadily expanded his responsibilities and portfolio amid the stream of shakeups at Warner­Media and HBO Max throughout 2021. As head of product, marketing, consumer engagement and operations, the U.S. Army veteran steered HBO Max through stumbles with public complaints about a glitchy interface and initial brand confusion. He led the charge on rolling out new iterations of HBO Max around the world and an ad-supported version for the U.S. market. Warner Bros.’ bold decision to orchestrate day-and-date digital and theatrical releases for its 2021 film slate was a gift to HBO Max and a windfall that Forssell’s team made the most of in audience development, data and R&D on interface and navigation questions. Forssell stepped down from WarnerMedia when it was spun off into Warner Bros. Discovery in 2022.
