Muschietti scored back-to-back blockbuster hits with his two-part New Line Cinema feature adaptation of the Stephen King novel “It,” released in 2017 and 2019, grossing $700 million and $473 million worldwide, respectively. It’s a fairytale Hollywood plot twist for the Argentine native, who began his career as a production assistant in Buenos Aires in 1996 and didn’t make his first feature until he was 39, when he co-wrote and directed the 2013 low-budget horror hit “Mama,” starring Jessica Chastain. He’s executive producer of the Netflix supernatural series “Locke & Key” and, in January 2020, signed on to direct a remake of the 1981 werewolf movie “The Howling” for the streamer. But first, he’ll bring the DC Comics multiverse to life in Warner Bros.’ “The Flash,” set for 2022.
