As head of the world’s second-biggest theatrical exhibitor for admissions and a main backer of the Morelia International Film Festival, Ramírez has spearheaded the company’s expansion into some 15 countries, including Spain, India, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Saudi Arabia. Cinepolis acquired a minority stake in local Indonesian exhibitor Cinemaxx in October 2018, opened its first cinema in Bahrain in January 2019 and is rolling out theaters across Saudi Arabia over the next two years. Cinepolis has a presence here as well. With its recent acquisition of Austin’s The Moviehouse & Eatery, it operates 258 screens at 26 locations across the U.S. The company has also grown its distribution and production arms, with the Spanish comedy “Perfectos Desconocidos” becoming director Manolo Caro’s biggest hit in Mexico.
