Ajit Pai
United States

Federal Communications Commission

Pai has earned both the enmity of consumer advocates for supporting the repeal of net neutrality (arguing it stifles innovation) and warm fuzzies from the broadcast industry for eliminating the ban on cross-ownership of newspapers and TV stations in major markets. Hollywood stands to benefit from his plans for an accelerated rollout of 5G to kick streaming into hyperspeed, initiatives to expand broadband access in rural America and the incubator program he launched for established broadcasters to provide financial support, training and mentoring to new or struggling broadcasters. Perhaps equally significant, Pai is the rare government official in a starkly divided America who has done something everyone supports — issuing an unprecedented number of enforcement actions against illegal robocallers, including a record $120 million fine for a Florida-based telemarketer.
