Verde
Chairman & CEO, Latin America, Spain & Portugal
Under Verde, the home of Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Maluma, Rauw Alejandro, Ricky Martin and Romeo has reinvigorated its long-held interest in the Latin market. The company also acquired Som Livre, Brazil’s largest independent label. The stature of the Brazilian market —
second only to the U.S. in consumption of Latin music, according to IFPI — motivated that purchase. The global trade group also reports that Sony was the market leader in every Latin American territory. Key to the company’s standing are its partnerships with Walter Kolm’s WK Entertainment, Federico Lauría’s Dale Play, Polo Montalvo’s La Buena Fortuna and Pepo Ferradas’ FPM Entertainment, although outside Verde’s operations Sony’s Latin market share is spiked by Rimas Entertainment’s Bad Bunny, who last year earned the first No. 1 ever by a non-English album on the Billboard 200.
