Sandler doesn’t often win over the critics, but with a legion of fans, who needs ’em? Not long after his comedy “Murder Mystery” became Netflix’s most watched 2019 title with 73 million views, the prolific leading man extended his lucrative long-term deal with the streaming giant, adding four more films to his docket. Alongside that, he earned the best reviews of his career while reminding audiences of his range in A24’s gritty crime thriller “Uncut Gems.” It’s clear he and his prodco Happy Madison show no signs of slowing down. With his latest for Netflix, “Hubie Halloween,” launching strong in October 2020, he’s now planning to start production on a basketball story, “Hustle,” with LeBron James’ production company SpringHill attached. Back in April, he revisited his comedy alma mater again for “SNL at Home,” performing a virtual rap with Pete Davidson (and Rob Schneider).
