A former sports reporter and TV presenter, the Turkish Ilicali launched his own production company in 2004, achieving huge success by bringing local adaptations of stalwarts “Deal or No Deal,” “Survivor,” “The Voice,” “Master­Chef” and “Dancing With the Stars” to Turkish television. Some of these are now broadcast on TV8, the channel his Acun Medya bought in 2013. The company expanded into international markets in 2016, producing formats of “The Voice” and “Survivor” in Greece, with “Survivor” debuting in Mexico in 2020 as well. Acun Medya’s own unscripted sports reality show, “Exathlon,” which has professional athletes and celebrities facing off against amateurs, debuted in Brazil in 2017 but now has versions in countries including the U.S. (on Tele­mundo), Hungary and Mexico. The Turkish version of “Exathlon” also bowed on Netflix in 2020, part of the streamer’s push into the country.
