Gilbert moved to the frontlines of Hollywood movie producers with the billion-dollar success of “Joker,” which was nominated for 11 Oscars in 2020, winning two, including one for best actor (Joaquin Phoenix). Since founding the Vancouver-based Bron with his wife, Brenda Gilbert, in 2010, he has produced, financed or co-financed a diverse collection of acclaimed films with a variety of partners (MGM, Sony, Warner Bros., Creative Wealth Media), including “Fences,” “The Birth of a Nation” and “The Mule.” The pandemic delayed one of its big releases, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” to 2021, but in the early days of the shutdown Bron’s WW2 naval drama “Greyhound,” starring Tom Hanks, saw its delayed theatrical release moved by Sony to Apple TV Plus for $70 million.
