Over the last decade, Gilbert has transformed from a Canadian music licensing expert into one of the top film financiers in Hollywood, alongside his wife, Brenda Gilbert — a status cemented with their best picture Oscar winner “Joker” (2019). Through their company Bron, they executive produced and co-financed 2021-22 awards-season contenders including Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Licorice Pizza,” “Cyrano” and “House of Gucci,” and Ron Howard’s cave rescue drama “Thirteen Lives” (due in 2022), all of which are part of a $200 million co-financing deal with MGM and Sony Pictures for eight films, including November release “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” for Columbia. The Gilberts’ growing TV division is also prolific, with new series including a British remake of French series “Call My Agent!” the western “That Dirty Black Bag” and the Irish gangster drama “Kin.”
