This Week in Entertainment 1977

The original “Star Wars” was released on May 25, 1977, and became a cultural phenomenon. It quickly surpassed 1975’s “Jaws” as the highest grossing film ever until “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” overtook it in 1983. It has spawned, so far, two sequels and three prequels, and a new installment featuring the originals stars – Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher – will be released by Disney later this year, as the studio moves to reboot the franchise.
