On June 17, 1994, O.J. Simpson and his longtime friend Al Cowlings led California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles Police officers on a slow speed chase after being charged in the deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. The chase captivated viewers and onlookers, who cheered and waved from overpasses, ramps, and, in some cases, pulling over on the freeway and waving from the roadside. Simpson was later arrested at his home, about 10 hours after he was to turn himself in to police. He was later acquitted in a televised murder trial.
