NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” topped the TV program ratings last week, but CBS moved back to No. 1 among networks thanks to the return of “Under the Dome” and “Big Brother.”
CBS averaged 5.45 million viewers per evening, according to Nielsen estimates for June 22-28, besting NBC (4.54 million) and ABC (3.9 million) and miles ahead of fourth-place Fox (2.84 million viewers per night).
With its 11 million viewers, “America’s Got Talent” was one of only two new shows to beat out wildly popular reruns of “NCIS” (8.9 million) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (7.4 million) on CBS, which placed among the top 5 in the overall ratings.
The top scripted original series was CBS’ “Under the Dome,” which drew 6.3 million viewers Thursday night and came in tenth place overall. This season’s performance, however, is down about 30% compared to last season.
The summer’s top new show is “Celebrity Family Feud” on ABC. Hosted by Steve Harvey, the Sunday series held up well in its second week on the air, down just 5% with 8.3 million tuning in.
“The Bachelorette” is having a strong season amid constant debate over Kaitlyn Bristowe’s behavior. The ABC series is up in the ratings compared to last year; last week’s episode drew 6.6 million viewers, making it the eighth most-watched program in the timeframe.
“The BET Awards” led cable programming for the week, with 6.3 million viewers watching Sunday night. The ceremony included a dance tribute to Janet Jackson by Tinashe, Jason Derulo and Ciara in honor of Jackson’s Ultimate Icon award. “Teen Beach Movie 2” finished second in the cable race, drawing 5.8 million viewers for its Friday night bow on Disney Channel.
Despite “Wayward Pines” dwelling in the low forties in same-night rankings (with about 3.5 million viewers last week), the Fox drama makes up a big audience in DVR playback and has been consistent week to week.
