John Dempsey

John Dempsey, based in New York, joined <I>Variety</I> in 1977 as a reporter. Over the years, he has covered various beats: broadcast-network-TV programming, TV syndication, cable television and the business of TV sports. He now focuses on cable TV. Before <I>Variety</I>, he worked for five years at Broadcasting Magazine, covering programming. Earlier in his career, he was a movie critic for the Boston Herald Traveler and a feature writer for the Baltimore Sun.
