As New York and Los Angeles reopen and people are dining out, Variety asked industry insiders to recommend their favorite restaurants. Bon appétit!

1. Steven Canals, Co-creator, “Pose”

Providence (5955 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles)  “I just love a tasting menu, and chef Michael Cimarusti is a superb chef. He really cares about the ingredients that he’s using, and that comes through in every course. It’s a fantastic meal.”

2. Lynette Howell Taylor, Producer, “I Know This Much Is True”

Porta Via (1063 N. Swarthmore Ave., Pacific Palisades) “They do a mean vegan Bolognese that I’m crazy about, and the atmosphere in the village is magical.”

3. Matthew López, Playwright, “The Inheritance”

Walter’s (166 Dekalb Ave., Brooklyn) “It’s steps from Fort Greene Park, where my father played in as a child and where I now spend my summer evenings with my dog and then go to Walter’s for a Walter’s Burger.

4. George Takei, Actor, LGBTQ activist

Marino Restaurant (6001 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles)  “I love Southern Italian, the tangy arrabbiata. And the Sinatra steak is — I shouldn’t use the word — it’s to live for. Why do you want to die for something? The Sinatra steak at Marino’s is to live for!”

5. Richard Weitz, Partner, WME

The Tower Bar (Sunset Tower Hotel, 8358 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles); Craig’s (8826 Melrose Ave., West Hollywood)  “At Tower Bar, I love the pigs in the blanket and the sundaes. At Craig’s, the meatball pizza made especially for me.”

6. Vanessa Williams, Host, PBS’ “A Capitol Fourth” concert

Scalinatella Ristorante (201 E. 61st St., New York City) “It’s major authentic Italian food.”
