Disney Animation Studios has released the first trailer for “Encanto,” which releases this November.

Marking Disney’s 60th animated feature, the Colombia-set film will follow family members who all possess magical powers, like super-strength, shape-shifting and the abilities to control animals and plants. However, Mirabel, voiced by “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “In the Heights” star Stephanie Beatriz, is the only person to not possess a special gift. When she discovers that her family’s magic might be under threat, she realizes that she is the only one who can save it. The film is directed by Byron Howard and Jared Bush, co-directed and co-written by Charise Castro Smith and features music written by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Miranda is best known for the Broadway musical and pop culture phenomenon “Hamilton,” which reimagines the story of the American founding father Alexander Hamilton. A recording of the musical released on Disney Plus last summer sparked a 74% spike in downloads over the 4th of July weekend. More recently, Miranda teamed up with “Crazy Rich Asians” director Jon M. Chu to adapt his Manhattan-based stage musical “In the Heights” as a feature-length film.

“Encanto” will be released in theaters on November 24.

Miranda has been involved with the project since 2016. During Walt Disney Animation Studios’ presentation at the company’s Investor Day in Dec. 2020, Miranda spoke highly of the magical film. “We have fallen in love with the people and culture and the crossroads of musical styles that exist in the region,” Miranda said of the studio representing Colombia through the production.
