YouTube tapped veteran executive Craig Hunter, most recently with Sony Pictures Television, as global head of preschool content for the internet platform’s originals team.

In the newly created role, Hunter is in charge of all preschool content that falls under the kids and families vertical for YouTube Kids & Family Originals.  Currently based in London, Hunter plans to relocate to L.A. this summer. He reports to Nadine Zylstra, head of family learning and impact for YouTube Originals.

Hunter is tasked with growing the slate of YouTube original content for prechool kids for a global audience. His purview will include original programming properties sourced for families on YouTube including scripted series, scripted and unscripted features, unscripted series, docu-series, scripted reality and live programming.

“Craig is a highly seasoned international content specialist in the kids and family space,” Zylstra said in a statement. “His experience and creative background will help lead us in our commitment to invest in the future of quality kids, family and educational programming — as part of the $100 million commitment to original content that we announced.“

Hunter spent nearly nine years at Sony Pictures Television, most recently as director of kids’ networks where he was responsible for SPT’s portfolio of kids’ linear and VOD brands, content acquisitions, commissioning, programming and strategy across the U.K.

Prior to Sony, Hunter worked briefly at BBC Studios and he spent over six years as a creative exec at Nickelodeon. He started his career working in production for Disney EMEA. Hunter holds a BA with honors degree in graphic design and advertising from Buckinghamshire New University.
