Adrien Brody and Vera Farmiga are starring in the independent mystery thriller “The Salamander Lives Twice” with production scheduled to begin in the spring.
Brody will portray a man with an impenetrable briefcase and no memory who is found on the shoreline of a remote island by a woman and her daughter — played by Farmiga — who are the last remaining members of a once prosperous family dynasty.
Ant Timpson is directing “The Salamander Lives Twice” from a Toby Harvard script, with a story by Timpson and Harvard. The film is produced by Emma Slade for Firefly Films, Katie Holly for Blinder Films and is executive produced by Timpson and XYZ Films, which is handling worldwide sales. “The Salamander Lives Twice” will be introduced by XYZ to buyers, with CAA Media Finance co-repping domestic rights, at the online American Film Market, which opens Monday.
Brody won a best actor Academy Award for his role in Roman Polanksi’s “The Pianist” and starred in “King Kong,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Midnight in Paris.” Brody stars in Wes Anderson’s upcoming “The French Dispatch,” Netflix’s “Blonde” and the action-thriller “Clean,” which he co-wrote, scored and produced under his Fable House banner. He is currently filming the television series “Chapelwaite” for Epix, based on a Stephen King novel.
Farmiga received Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for her performance in “Up in the Air,” received Emmy nominations for her work on “Bates Motel” and was nominated for an Emmy for Ava DuVernay’s “When They See Us.” She starred in the two “Conjuring” movies and will next be seen starring in “The Many Saints of Newark” and “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.”
Timpson most recently directed the comedy thriller “Come to Daddy,” starring Elijah Wood, and is the creator of the series “The ABCs of Death.” Slade produced “Come to Daddy,” “The Changeover,” “Into the Rainbow” and “Little Secret,” which was nominated as Brazil’s Oscar entry for Best Foreign Film 2017. Harvard wrote “Come to Daddy” and “The Greasy Strangler.”
