Richard Madden in Talks to Star in Marvel’s ‘Eternals’

“Game of Thrones” and “Bodyguard” star Richard Madden is in talks to join Marvel’s “The Eternals.”

Angelina Jolie and Kumail Nanjiani are also on board. Marvel declined to comment on the casting.

Madden will play Ikaris, a member of the human offshoot race known as the Eternals.

Created by Jack Kirby in 1976, the comic book is set millions of years in the past, when the cosmic beings known as the Celestials genetically experimented on humans to create super-powered individuals known as the Eternals, along with the villainous Deviants. The two groups battled each other throughout history. The Eternals also warred with Greek, Roman and Norse deities before leaving Earth to explore the stars.

Chloe Zhao, whose credits include “The Rider” and “Songs My Brothers Taught Me,” is directing “The Eternals” from a script by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige is producing the pic.

Best known for his role as Robb Stark on “Game of Thrones,” Madden’s star began to rise again last year when his Netflix series “Bodyguard” became a huge hit, earning him a Golden Globe. On the film side, he is set to play Elton John’s manager in the highly anticipated biopic “Rocketman,” which is set to premiere later this month at the Cannes Film Festival.

    'Beast Beast': Film Review

Writer-director Danny Madden’s “Beast Beast” clatters to life with organic percussion: a stick rat-a-tatting against an iron fence, a skateboard scraping on concrete, a rifle pinging bullets against a defenseless tin plate. Together, these sounds combine into jazz, despite the discordance of the three teens making such a ruckus. Krista (Shirley Chen), the stick thwacker, [...]

    'Kajillionaire': Film Review

The world is a weird place. Miranda July knows that, but the rest of us sometimes forget. Or maybe we just don’t want to admit how bizarre it is that society more or less agrees that back rubs and hot tubs and flavored chips and McRibs are an appropriate reward for a bazillion years of [...]
