‘Saturday Night Live’: Robert De Niro’s Robert Mueller Grills Ben Stiller’s Michael Cohen

Robert De Niro and Ben Stiller reunited in this week’s “Saturday Night Live” cold open, with De Niro playing Special Counsel Robert Mueller and Stiller playing Trump attorney Michael Cohen.

The two “Meet the Parents” stars paid homage to the iconic lie detector scene from the film, with Mueller grilling Cohen about his work for the President. They also called back to the question of whether or not you can milk a cat. Cohen accused Mueller and his team of bias, which Mueller refuted by saying they use codenames for the President and his family to prevent emotion from coming into it.

Trump’s codename apparently used to be “Putin’s little b—h,” but is now “Stormy’s little b—h.” Ivanka’a codename is “Girlfriend,” while Erik and Donald Jr. are “Two Fredos.” Cohen is now known as “Dead Man Walking.”

Earlier in the cold open, Cohen lamented to Attorney General Jeff Sessions (Kate McKinnon) and Vice President Mike Pence (Beck Bennett) that he had all kinds evidence on Trump seized in a recent FBI raid. “I got a whole hard drive that’s just labeled ‘Yikes,'” he said.

Host John Mulaney, himself a former writer on the show, riffed on the time Patrick Stewart hosted the show. Mulaney was particularly fond of how the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” star announced the night’s musical guest, Salt-N-Pepa. Mulaney also kept the audience rolling when he broke down how much time we spend getting asked each day whether or not we are a robot.

The long-running NBC sketch series also spoofed the popular Netflix documentary series “Wild Wild Country.” In the sketch, Kenan Thompson plays a cult member who only got involved for the women. “There was ass everywhere!” he says with glee. Thompson’s character also says he enjoyed the smell generated in the town by all the sex. “It smelled like a karate class for monkeys,” he says.

In this week’s “Weekend Update,” McKinnon also suited up as embattled Fox News host Laura Ingraham. “So good to be back after that planned vacation,” Ingraham said. “It was so fun and so planned and so scheduled a long time ago.” Ingraham also touted her remaining sponsors in light of the recent wave of advertiser exits, including “Carl’s Sr., Carl’s Jr. food ground to mush for seniors.” Thompson also brought back his LaVar Ball impression, keeping Michael Che in stitches throughout.
