Jane Fonda and Richard Perry Sell Beverly Hills Contemporary at Steep Discount

Location:
Beverly Hills, Calif.
Price:
$8.535 million
Size:
7,102 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 7.5 bathrooms

Though they settled for far less than their last asking price of $9.995 million, not to mention a remarkable 34% less than their pie-in-the-sky original price tag of $12.995 million, former Hollywood power couple Jane Fonda and Richard Perry still earned a few bucks on the modern-minded residence they once shared in the popular if terrifically spendy Trousdale Estates area of Beverly Hills they bought in June 2012 for $7.29 million and sold just after the first of the year for $8.535 million. The 7,102-square-foot two-story contemporary, built in 1961 at the precipitous edge of steep hillside above Coldwater Canyon with four bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms, mixes glitzy luxuries such as a glass-walled elevator with a plethora of eco-conscious features that include bamboo floors, photovoltaic solar panels and UV-coated double-glazed thermal glass windows fitted with snazzy motorized shades.

Airy, open plan living spaces include a bi-level combination living and dining room with massive stone-faced fireplace and an adjoining butler’s pantry/wet bar along with a cook-friendly kitchen with huge center island and adjoining den with a glass-backed gas fireplace set dramatically into a frameless glass wall. There’s also a small office with built-in bookshelves and, one the lower level, a gym that opens to the pool and a vast entertainment space that includes a recording/listening lounge, a media area and a walk-in wet bar. The back of the house opens through walls of glass and glass sliders to both covered and sun-splashed terraces a solar heated swimming pool, and a couple of built-in fire pits strategically placed to take advantage of the cross-canyon and city lights views.

The 80-something “Grace & Frankie” star, a one-time Emmy winner, 8-time Golden Globe winner and two-time Oscar winner, first for “Klute” in 1971 and then for “Coming Home” in 1979, decamped Beverly Hills for a brand spanking new, elevator-equipped three-story townhouse-style condo of more than 5,700-square feet with four bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms in an exclusive guard-gated development in the bustling heart of L.A.’s Century City that she scooped up in April 2017 for $5.45 million.
