In today’s roundup, “The Alienist” will air in January 2018, while National Geographic acquired syndication rights to “Running Wild With Bear Grylls.”


TNT announced “The Alienist” is slated to premiere on Monday, Jan. 22 at 9 p.m. Set in 1896 New York City amid a backdrop of vast wealth, extreme poverty, and technological innovation, the psychological thriller stars Daniel Bruhl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning, and Brian Geraghty. “The Alienist” opens when a series of haunting, gruesome murders of boy prostitutes grips New York City. Newly appointed police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt (Geraghty) calls upon criminal psychologist (aka alienist) Dr. Laszlo Kreizler (Brühl) and newspaper illustrator John Moore (Evans) to conduct the investigation in secret. They are joined by Sara Howard (Fanning), a headstrong secretary determined to become the city’s first female police detective. Using the emerging disciplines of psychology and early forensic investigation techniques, this band of social outsiders set out to find and apprehend one of New York City’s first serial killers. The drama also features Douglas Smith, Matthew Shear, Matt Lintz, Robert Ray Wisdom, and Q’orianka Kilcher. Watch a new trailer below:


Jed Kapsos has been appointed to chief financial officer at Pop, a CBS/ Lionsgate-owned entertainment network. Kapsos, who most recently served as senior vice president of finance for CBS Television Network in New York, will relocate to Los Angeles. He will report to Pop president Brad Schwartz. In his previous role, Kapsos was responsible for overseeing all of CBS’s accounting, shared services, and west coast operations finance. He also served as the liaison with CBS Corporation and other CBS divisions for network finance matters. He joined CBS in 1998 with initial responsibility of its internal audit and financial reporting departments.


National Geographic has acquired cable syndication rights of NBCUniversal’sRunning Wild With Bear Grylls.” Starting Oct. 26, the network will air the first three seasons of the series, which features Grylls, famed adventurer and survivalist who takes celebrities into remote locations in the U.S. and around the world for a 48-hour extreme survival journey.  Participants from Season 1 include Zac Efron, Ben Stiller, and Channing Tatum, while Season 2 featured Kate Winslet, Kate Hudson, Ed Helms, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. Courtney Cox, Julianne Hough, Vanessa Hudgens, and Nick Jonas are among those on Season 3.
