“Suits” is expected to land an eighth season order from USA Network but its core cast will get a makeover as stars Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle are expected to bow out at the end of season seven.
Adams and Markle have been with the legal ensembler since its inception in 2011. “Suits” remains a sturdy performer for USA and Universal Cable Productions. The series is now in production on the final episodes of season seven, expected to air in USA early next year.
The departure of Adams and Markle would amount to an overhaul of the series as the characters — legal prodigy Mike Ross and savvy paralegal Rachel Zane — have been romantically involved and central to recent storylines.
“Suits” creator and showrunner Aaron Korsh is also in the midst of shepherding a planted “Suits” spinoff revolving around the character played by actress Gina Torres, who left the series during its sixth season.
Markle has made headlines during the past year for her off-screen romantic involvement with Britain’s Prince Harry. Speculation about the prospect of a royal wedding coming soon has been feverish on both sides of the Pond.
A rep for USA and UCP declined to comment.
