In a multi-year deal announced Wednesday, German TV and digital content producers Redseven are teaming up with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Worldwide Television Distribution to adapt a number of MGM’s unscripted formats for German TV.
Redseven, a Red Arrow Entertainment Group company, will co-produce and distribute domestic formats of existing programs, while MGM brings a massive catalog of potential content to be adapted.
To start, Redseven will produce German versions of “American Gladiators,” Steve Harvey’s “Funderdome,” home remodeling series “Minor Renovations,” and music competition “Signed.”
Via a press statement, Chris Ottinger, president of worldwide television distribution and acquisitions at MGM, said of the partnership: “With MGM’s proven track record of inventive formats and Redseven’s versatile production expertise, this venture gives MGM the ability to offer German broadcasters a turn-key format and production package, allowing them to bring quality programming to viewers.”
The sentiment was echoed by Jobst Benthues, managing director at Redseven Entertainment: “Our joint venture with MGM will secure us with additional attractive content for many years to come, allowing us to continue to expand our production output in Germany.”
Redseven will be supplementing its already-proven track record as producers of many of Germany’s most popular unscripted shows based on international formats such as “The Biggest Loser,” “Germany’s Next Top Model,” and “Marriage at First Sight.”
