E! has ordered a pilot for “#Fashionvictim,” an hour-long dark comedy from “Heathers” writer Daniel Waters and his brother, “Mean Girls” director Mark Waters.
Hailing from from Universal Cable Productions and Thinkfactory Media, “#Fashionvictim” tells the story of Anya St. Clair, an aspiring fashion editor, style maven, velvet-rope VIP, Instagram trendsetter, and social media chameleon who truly believes that fashion is top die for. St. Clair never goes anywhere without her lipstick, phone, credit cards, and switchblade (pearl-handled, naturally). Fashion faux-pas can prove to be fatal to anyone who is unfortunate enough to clash with her aesthetic or get in the way of her ambitions.
The Waters brothers wrote the pilot and will executive produce, with Mark Waters set to direct. Jessica Tuchinsky and Thinkfactory Media’s Leslie Greif will also executive produce. Alexander Kerr will serve as producer and Daniel Noble as co-producer. The pilot is based on source material by Amina Akhtar.
The pilot order keeps NBCUniversal-owned E! moving forward in scripted-programming development at a time when other cable channels such as MTV, WGN America, and A&E have abandoned scripted, returning to their roots as purveyors of low-cost, high-volume reality programming. While E! is largely recognized for reality franchises such as “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” it has found some success supplementing that element of its brand with original scripted dramas. “The Royals,” starring Elizabeth Hurley, premiered in 2015 as the channel’s first scripted series and is currently in production on its fourth season. Another drama, “The Arrangement,” is in production on season two.
Mark Waters is represented by UTA. Daniel Waters is represented by WME.
